World Wellness Weekend
Sept. 11-12, 2004
Southern Oregon University, Ashland, Oregon
World Wellness Weekend is a very special healing weekend featuring keynote speakers, lectures, exhibits, and booths dedicated to educating the public to the many various health and wellness methods and products. This is not limited to our “medical” health. This also includes advances in the products and services we use everyday to improve our environmental health so as to maintain and create a healthy lifestyle. This unique community event represents a multi-dimensional, complimentary view of health and wellness using western, eastern, and holistic healing modalities-integrative medicine- as well as the latest in alternative energy technologies. The Rogue Valley has evolved into one of the world’s leading healing centers, which began, with Ashland’s Lithia Springs. It is the appropriate time and the appropriate place to examine the future direction of the health and wellness of ourselves and our world. We here in the Rogue Valley are gifted with the most advanced healthcare professionals of all types, leading advances in alternative energy, as well as extraordinary natural beauty, and a population of an open, accepting public.
Dr. Bernie Siegel will be our keynote speaker on Sat. Sept. 11th. For almost three decades, Dr. Bernie Siegel has been familiar to both mainstream and professional medical audiences as one of the most persuasive advocates of complementary and alternative medicine-particularly mind-body healing. His credentials (an undergraduate degree from Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., a medical doctorate from Cornell Medical College in Ithaca, N.Y., and surgical training at Yale University in New Haven, Conn.) are impressive. But his appealing charismatic style, demonstrated on Oprah, Donahue, 20/20 and scores of other popular television programs, ensured that general audiences would find him and his message especially compelling.
Our keynote speaker on Sunday Sept. 12 will be Deepak Chopra, MD. Deepak Chopra has written more than twenty-five books, which have been translated into thirty-five languages. He is also the author of more than one hundred audio and videotape series, including five critically acclaimed programs on public television. In 1999 Time magazine selected Dr. Chopra as one of the Top 100 Icons and Heroes of the Century.
The event benefits SOWAC Microenterprise Development Center. SOWAC’s mission is to help people start, expand, and improve their small business by offering practical, hands-on business training, technical assistance, and loans.
The hours of the event will be 9:45am-7:15pm. Admission fees are $30 per day or $50 for a weekend pass. Kids under 12 are Free. There will be light entertainment and some other speakers throughout the day. We expect at least 5,000 people to attend over the entire weekend. This event will be publicized nationally, with a focus on the Interstate 5 corridor from Portland to Sacramento and over to the coast, as it features two of America's most notable authors and speakers on health and wellness.
Sponsors already committed to the event include:
Ashland Community Hospital, Ashland Food Coop, Ashland Chamber of Commerce, Phone Directory Company, The Ashland Family YMCA, JuicePlus, Ashland Daily Tidings, Jefferson Public Radio
